Pre Diabetes and Diabetes Diagnosis

How was this determined? Below are the basic diagnostic criteria for pre diabetes and diabetes:

Pre Diabetes

  • Hemoglobin A1c between 5.7% and 6.4%
  • OR Fasting blood sugar level (glucose is another term for this) of greater than or equal to 100 mg/dL
  • OR 2 hour post sugary drink (from the lab) consumption blood glucose level of greater than/equal to 140 mg/dL

Diabetes

  • Hemoglobin A1c greater than or equal to 6.5%
  • OR Fasting blood sugar level (glucose is another term for this) of greater than 126 mg/dL
  • OR 2 hour post sugary drink (from the lab) consumption blood glucose level of greater than/equal to 200 mg/dL
  • OR random blood glucose level of greater than/equal to 200 mg/dL
